The Deming High School Art Department is vying for the top prize in the 2021 Vans Custom Culture Contest. Local students Kamryn Zachek (12th grade) and Annette Guzman (11th grade) designed submissions that made it into the final 50 in the nation–and they are looking for hometown support to push them into the top 5.

Cast votes every day until 4pm MST May 7 by going to https://customculture.vans.com/ and choosing Deming High School.

If they win, the $50,000 grand prize would be used by the Art Department to fund three specific programs. First, a downtown art and mural revitalization project; second, school art supplies and technology/licenses to ensure high schoolers have access to current digital art design tools and training; and third, student travel to visit museums where they can see the art they’ve studied.

Once public voting ends, the team at Vans will review the Top 5 upvoted designs and their impact statements to choose the final winner. Four runners up will be awarded $15,000 and one winner will receive the top prize of $50,000. Winners will be announced the week of May 17, 2021.
