In 1918 Mayor T. H. Dabney declared and passed a Proclamation to set aside March 9th as a Memorial for the Fallen Americans as a result of Francisco Villa’s raid on Columbus in 1916.
We are honoring that Proclamation and taking that day to honor and remember those Americans that fell on that mad day.
Village Employees will have that day (March 9, 2020) off – only after we have all received the Adjutant General MG Kenneth A. Nava of the NM Army National Guard and the rest of his entourage as they land at the First Aero Squadron 1916 Landing Strip just South East of the Village.
From there we will move to the back of the Railroad Museum to have our Memorial Service.
All Village Employees must attend the welcoming of the National Guard as they land and the Memorial service afterward
The schedule for Monday, March 9, 2020, is as follows:
9:00 a.m. meet at the landing Strip (Kansas St. S.E.)
9:45 a.m. meet behind the Railroad Museum
After the Memorial Service, all Village Employees will have the rest of the day as a day of rest.
