Tumbleweed theater re-opened in style with a concert featuring classical guitarist Steven Hawson.
The room filled with the gentle but complex sounds of the music of Bach, Scarlatti, Villa-Lobos and even a nod to desert life with a sing-along of America’s “Horse with No Name.” Hawson rounded out his strumming with musical anecdotes and personal stories.
This was a feel-good re-opening for July McLure, owner of Tumbleweed Theater. “I’m feeling rusty. It’s been almost 3 years since we’ve been open and I feel like a fish out of water when I’m not performing. This was a great turnout and I’m thankful for everyone’s support”
Norma Gomez, Laura Ganaway and Lupita provided an optional dinner of chicken and cheese enchiladas with salad, beans and rice. The concert was well attended with just under 30 music lovers.
“I’m used to Merle haggard and Johnny Cash! To hear classical music is inspiring–it was very cultured. We need more of this,” said concert-goer Vincent Tartaglia.
While the next event isn’t yet planned, there’s hope for more acts of all kinds. “We’re looking for performers,” said McLure. “We’re excited to be open again and looking for directors, choral performers, bands. We want people to come on down or contact me if they’re interested.”
