Four years ago, in August of 2018, Silver Whiskers opened its doors in the historic downtown district of Deming at 118 S Silver. An original Bull Durham Tobacco mural adorns the inside of the store which is filled with unique treasures and memorable gifts.

Silver Whiskers was established to support the nonprofit Deming Animal Guardians and the no-kill rescue DAGSHIP just south of town. Their name is based on the Silver Avenue location and silver whiskers of our beloved pets.

Gently used and new merchandise is donated weekly creating a unique shopping experience at every turn. Antiques, Art, Jewelry, Glassware, Books and Pottery can be found along with many other one-of-a-kind pieces.

Over the years this friendly little shop has become a go-to place for many looking to buy something different and to make new friends. The shop is run by five Deming Animal Guardians volunteers and its inventory is made up of donations from the animal lovers of Deming and surrounding communities.

August not only celebrates the 4th anniversary of Silver Whiskers but also numerous national pet holidays like “Give a Dog a Bone” on August 21st; “National Spoil Your Dogy Day” August 10th and “International Cat Day” August 8th. If you are an animal lover and want to celebrate with a favorite local nonprofit, stop by Silver Whiskers and meet the staff. While you’re there, you might like to get started on some early shopping for an upcoming birthday or even the holidays!

The volunteers of Deming Animal Guardians and Silver Whiskers would like to take a minute to say “thank you” to the community for the support and many, many donations over the years. We look forward to serving you for many more.

Proceeds from the store help fund Deming Animal Guardians spay and neuter program for families in need; DAGSHIP, Luna County’s no-kill animal rescue together with its sister shelter in Columbus and the organization’s pet food bank for low-income families.
